If you are attempting to create EBS snapshots and you may receive an error message such as the following:

Maximum number of snapshots, 10000, already exist

By default, AWS accounts have a limit of 10,000 EBS snapshots that can exist in a single AWS account at any time. If you attempt to create more, then you will receive this error message.

To resolve this issue, you can do any of the following:

  1. Delete some of your existing EBS snapshots. Skeddly includes a "Delete EBS Snapshots" action which can be used to delete older snapshots.

  2. Contact AWS support and request your EBS snapshots limit be raised.
